Neurotoxins (Botox & Dysport)
Botulinum Toxin- one of the most common medical spa procedures. At our medspa, we offer 2 types of Botulinum Toxin: Botox and Dysport. Botulinum toxin works to temporarily paralyze the muscles to decrease fine wrinkles in the face. The toxin acts by binding to a protein at the neuromuscular junction to inactivate the muscle. This typically lasts approximately 3-4 months as this is the time it takes for the nerve terminal to regenerate. While the muscle is temporarily paralyzed, the overlying skin is tightened above it, thereby lessening the appearance of wrinkles. This procedure is currently FDA approved for the glabellar (between eyes). However, it is often used for other areas on the face, and other areas of the body.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance that is injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, enhance facial contours, and plump the lips. This, combined with botulinum toxins, are a cost-effective way to look younger without the high cost of surgery or downtime. They are compromised of various substances such as hyaluronic acid (HA), calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHa), poly-L-lactic acid and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). Other. Newer options of various substance such as autologous fat injections involve obtaining the patient’s own fat cells and injecting them into certain areas of the face to restore volume. The results typically last 9 months to a year depending on the product. One of our qualified nurse injectors will be able to assist you in determining the correct filler for your specific condition.
